SPACE CONNECT NORTH

Can smaller cities compete in the global space economy?

North Denmark was once Mobile Valley - a global centre of mobile communications. History is repeating itself.

Space Connect North unites +20 companies and Aalborg University in a cluster where most members have already launched hardware into orbit. That is rare. As Gatehouse Satcom's CEO notes, there is likely no other place in Europe with this concentration of established, flight-proven space companies within 50 kilometres.

The cluster targets six strategic tracks:

  • Ssatellite education
  • Talent acquisition
  • Investment attraction
  • New space leadership
  • Innovation and entrepreneurship, and
  • Commercial scale-up.

For Europe's space ambitions to materialise, it needs regional ecosystems - not just national agencies. Space Connect North is one.

What is Space Connect North

Space Connect North is a collaborative space and satellite technology cluster based in Northern Denmark, with Aalborg at its center. It brings together companies, universities, and public institutions to strengthen innovation, research, and commercialization in the space sector.

The initiative aims to position the region as a global hub for digital space technologies by fostering collaboration, attracting talent and investment, and supporting the development of new space solutions - particularly in satellite communication and connectivity.

By connecting industry, academia, and government, Space Connect North provides a complete ecosystem that enables companies and researchers to develop, test, and scale space technologies, contributing to both regional growth and international competitiveness.

Not everyone knows…

Aalborg plays a quiet but crucial role in global space exploration. Technologies developed here are used in major missions in collaboration with ESA, NASA, and SpaceX—helping improve mission performance while generating valuable data and solutions used back on Earth.

In this video, Lars Moltsen from Sternula and Jens Dalsgaard Nielsen from Aalborg University introduce the space ecosystem that makes Aalborg a key player in the international space landscape.
