Ambolt AI in Aalborg
Interview with Andreas Berre Eriksen, CEO - Ambolt AI
If You Motivate the Best – You Become Unbeatable
According to CEO and co-founder of Ambolt AI, Andreas Berre Eriksen, you can find some of the best minds in Aalborg.
At Ambolt AI in Aalborg, artificial intelligence is seen as a critical platform for solving some of the world's biggest challenges.
- “For us, AI started as a project back in 2014. We were fascinated by the potential of the technology to learn from data and make intelligent decisions. Our dream with Ambolt was to spread AI across Denmark.”
Ambolt AI brands itself as Denmark's AI Powerhouse, specializing in AI-based solutions for everything from customer service, sales processes, quality control, and business development, to traffic and health. In health, Ambolt AI has quickly become a key player.
Do You Know Helseboka?
No? Well, they do in Norway.
Without Ambolt AI, the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic in Norway would have looked quite different. Practically every Norwegian has interacted with solutions developed by this Aalborg-based company—with great success. This has led to an expansion of the platform, integrating more areas of the Norwegian healthcare system.
In 2018, two Norwegian doctors contacted Ambolt AI with an idea. This sparked a strong collaboration and the health platform Helseboka was born.
The platform offers several features, including full access to personal health data and easy doctor appointment booking.
During COVID-19, Andreas said Ambolt’s AI solution helped decide who should be tested or vaccinated first, like when test capacity was limited.
- "We basically managed the entire vaccine strategy in Norway – from booking vaccinations, selecting individuals for vaccination, to collecting data for evaluating the vaccination process. If our systems went offline, it would have meant no vaccinations in Norway.”
More Than a Buzzword
The development of AI has been incredibly rapid and impressive in recent years.
AI has moved from being a theoretical discipline to becoming an integrated part of many aspects of our daily lives and business.
- “AI is not just about technology; it’s about creating value. The ability to automate data processing and derive insights is what makes a difference. The real magic of AI lies in its ability to process enormous amounts of data and identify patterns not immediately visible to humans.”
There is a high demand for AI solutions, and Ambolt AI receives an overwhelming number of inquiries. As a result, they must set some requirements for their clients.
- “We’re still a relatively small player and could theoretically take on a lot more work, but that would result in half-baked solutions here and there. We just don’t want that. If someone assumes their data is perfect and everything runs flawlessly, they could be in for a shock when they meet us.”
Europe’s Brightest Minds
Aalborg University has often been named Europe’s best engineering university.
“For me, it’s the combination of a very high academic level, problem-based learning, and teamwork that makes Aalborg University produce the best minds, for example in computer science. At Ambolt AI, we’ve adopted this team-based approach because it fosters new ways of thinking and developing solutions.”
Ambolt AI itself originated from Aalborg University, providing them with a strong network to attract talent. But it’s not just access to talent that matters to Ambolt AI; it’s also about how they approach talent and motivate their employees.
- “I think one of the worst things you can do with advanced technology is to sit in a basement and work alone. Technology needs to be applied in the real world, and you must have the courage to use it – otherwise, you risk using it incorrectly.” Andreas continues:
-
“The people developing here are the best digital developers I’ve ever encountered at any company. Despite having incredibly skilled profiles, if you are talented but lazy, you won’t get far, and if you are hardworking but not skilled, you won’t go far either. But if you motivate the best – you become unbeatable.”
Born Global in Aalborg
- “I was born and raised in Aalborg, studied at the university here, and now run my company here. I do it because I love Aalborg. It’s a small city on a global scale, but I see it as a place where there’s room to experiment with new technology and new solutions,” Andreas explains.
- “Our goal is to push software solutions worldwide. We have clients all over the world, and our ambition is to scale Ambolt AI globally, with absolutely no barriers to keeping our headquarters in Aalborg. This is where the talent is.”
To ensure continued growth and innovation, attracting and retaining talent is crucial. Aalborg’s educational institutions play a central role in this process by offering programs that match industry needs.
- “We need more people to study in Aalborg. We need to emphasize what Aalborg has to offer. Many have moved to Copenhagen, but luckily, quite a few return because the city offers something different. But we need to step up and do more.”
Did You Know Ambolt AI Organizes the Danish AI Championship?
The Danish AI Championship (DM i AI) is an annual competition for students organized by Ambolt AI, the Danish Data Science Academy, and the Pioneer Center for Artificial Intelligence. Formally, it’s a week-long hackathon where students’ abilities to develop and implement AI models across various disciplines are tested. Informally, it’s our way of celebrating the talents of the future.
This year is the 5th time in a row that Ambolt AI organizes DM in AI.
